WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AT THE MEDCONNECT CONFERENCE 2020 ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 15TH!
MedConnect’s Board of Directors
The MedConnect Conference is being organized by a team of undergraduate students from Phi Delta Epsilon International Medical Fraternity, Canada Beta Chapter at Simon Fraser University, in collaboration with medical students from the University of British Columbia. Below, you can learn more about our diverse and experienced event team working hard to create another successful MedConnect on November 23rd, 2019.
Taranjot Kaur – Executive Director
Taranjot is a third year SFU student majoring in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry with a minor in Biomedical Physiology and transferred from Douglas College with a Diploma in Microbiology. She hopes to study medicine and eventually be able to teach it as part of not-for-profit organizations. Outside of school, Taranjot is a department supervisor for the provincial and national operations of a leading security firm and volunteers with the BC Children & Women’s foundation and Learning Buddies Network. Taranjot is also a part of SFSS Women’s Centre and hopes to work on women’s health through her career in medicine. Taranjot joined the Medconnect team to share her skills and experience from working in a corporate environment and seeing this event be a success.
Jessica Seemann – Programming Director
Jessica Seemann is a fourth year SFU student majoring in Biomedical Physiology. She joined Phi Delta Epsilon Canada Beta Chapter during her first year at SFU. Currently, Jessica serves as the Professional Development chair of PhiDE. She hopes to pursue a career in medicine, specializing in forensic pathology. She is driven by her passion to help others, both locally and abroad. This passion has motivated her to help organize fundraisers for BC Children’s Hospital and peer tutor chemistry. It also inspired her to travel to India in the summer of 2018 to volunteer in a medical outreach program. Outside of school, she is a dance teacher, teaching intro ballet to ages 2 through 9.
Ranjot Singh Bhandal – Logistics Director
Ranjot is a second year student majoring in Biomedical Physiology at Simon Fraser University. Outside of classes, Ranjot engages in various volunteer roles, music production, and exploration of Vancouver’s urban and natural landscapes. Recognizing the importance of accessibility in the enjoyment of life, from accessible entertainment to accessible healthcare, Ranjot is involved in initiatives such as Tech Help with Teens, where he taught mature library patrons how to use both basic and advanced functions on their electronic devices. This year, Ranjot brings his skills and experience to the MedConnect team to produce an enjoyable, and accessible, virtual conference.
Maya Naidu – Communications and Plenary Director
Maya is a fourth year Health Sciences student at SFU and the Recruitment Chair of Phi Delta Epsilon Canada Beta Chapter. Though her goal is to become a physician, she hopes to spend her undergraduate years to better understand the social, economic, and biological determinants of health and illness. Due to her wide array of academic interests, she is also pursuing a Certificate in Liberal Arts. Outside of classes, she works as a tutor with the Friends of Simon Program and is the co-president of Impact SFU. During summer, Maya delves into other passions such as coaching full-bore marksmanship at an army cadet camp, travelling as an international volunteer with Help, Learn, and Discover, and researching within the field of HIV latency at an SFU laboratory.
Elyssa Bingham – Marketing Director
Elyssa is a third year student pursuing a joint major in Business and Psychology at Simon Fraser University. In Phi Delta Epsilon Canada Beta Chapter, she is committed to her role of Philanthropy chair, as seen by her tireless efforts to organize fundraisers for the BC Children’s Hospital. Her work as a behavioural interventionist working with kids diagnosed with ASD, as well as her position as a Money Advisor for G&F Financial has led her to find her passion for helping people. For her second consecutive year as Marketing Director on the MedConnect team she hopes to educate others on non-traditional pathways to medicine, including majors outside pre-med such as her own. She hopes to encourage everyone to follow their own unique career path rather than conform to expected social norms.
Daria Elrick – Senior Advisor
Daria is a fourth year student pursuing a BSc in Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University. This will be her third year planning MedConnect on the Board of Directors! In Phi Delta Epsilon Canada Beta Chapter, Daria has been the Chapter President since December 2018. Her previous roles included Social Media Coordinator and Academic Coordinator. Daria has always been passionate about giving back to her community and helping to provide diverse and valuable opportunities for future medical students. In addition to her studies and other commitments, Daria also works in Clinical Operations for a telehealth start-up, Babylon Health, which provides services via the Babylon by TELUS Health app.
